One of the best ways to brighten up a room is a well placed rug, but if you’ve got pets and kids they can get dirty very quickly. Luckily keeping your rug in tip-top condition couldn’t be simpler. As it’s spring, here’s our top ten tips for spring cleaning your rugs.
1. A Punctual Vacuum
The best and easy way to get the most dust out is to use an upright vacuum cleanerwith a rotating brush bar, as this compel fibers to remove more dust and pet hair. However if you have a particularly delicate or old wool rug, you may prefer to turn the brush bar off for vacuuming. You should vacuum the surface at least twice a week or more. Every few weeks, flip the rug over and vacuum the reverse side too.

2. Tassels and Fringes
It’s all too easy to accidentally suck up tassels and fringes when vacuum cleaning, which could damage your rug.So better use your hands to separate and straighten fringing and tassels after you’ve finished vacuum it.

3. Rotate Your Rugs
Once or twice a year you should spin your rugs around 180 degrees as this reduces wear and tear in one particular spot and will help keep them looking newer for longer.

4. Wash your rugs regularly
Many people only think about cleaning their rug when visible dirt and stains appear, however to prolong its life you should wash it regularly, even if it looks clean on the surface. This is because dirt and grit that gets walked into your house drops between the fibers of your rug and some of it lodges there, beyond the reach of your vacuum cleaner. As you walk across the rug, the dirt gets ground into the fibers, damaging and fraying them. The best way to remove embedded dirt from your rugs is to wash it every 6 months or so with an extraction carpet washer. Before washing always test a small area of the rug first, to check that it’s color fast.

5. Choose the Right Detergent
Make sure shampoo you are using to wash your rugs is suitable for particularly for Rugs NOT for Carpets. Carpet detergents can leave a sticky residue, which over time will attract more dirt so you end up with an even dirtier rug! Ideally.
